FINANCE Minister Colm Imbert said yesterday that Government withdrew some $709 million from the country’s Infrastructure Development Fund (IDF) to assist in paying termination benefits to former Petrotrin employees.
The Parliament’s Standing Finance Committee yesterday approved that the 2019 appropriation for the Finance Ministry be supplemented by $729,187,071.
Imbert said in November 2018 Petrotrin was required to pay a significant sum in termination benefits to its employees, in excess of $2 billion, and it sought assistance from the Finance Ministry for ‘bridge financing’ — temporary financing.
