1. The competition has been established to promote and recognize excellence in creative writing and encourage a culture of reading in Trinidad and Tobago. Entries are restricted to persons in the following age categories:

(a) 13 to 15

(b) 16 to 18

(c) 19 to 22 years of age.

2. Entrants under 18 years of age must sign the attached consent form.

3. Entries must not exceed 5,000 words. Word count should be indicated at the end.

4. Entries must be submitted no later than 30th April, 2019.

5. Each participant must sign the declaration form attached.

6. Each participant may submit no more than one entry.

7. The judges reserve the right to reject an entry that, in their opinion, does not comply with the requirements of the competition without giving any reason.

8. The judges’ decision is final. Entries will not be returned and entrants should keep copies of the work submitted.

9. In judging entries, the judges will be guided by the judging criteria (see judging criteria), but emphasizing the characteristics of originality, impact, quality and initiative.

10. Applicants can submit entries either in print or via email.

11. The winner in each category will be published in the Trinidad Express newspaper in May 2019, along with the 2nd & 3rd places.

12. The prizes will include the following:

Category 13 – 15 years old

1. Cash prize of $3,000 with an electronic device

2. Cash prize of $2,000 and an electronic device
