There is a new musical Fridge on the market and its slimmer, sleeker and dare say, sexier than the old model.
For his entire singing career Jason Seecharan has carried the moniker Fridge. It’s a nickname that perfectly matched his imposing six foot-plus 300-pound figure. But the thing is. most modern refrigerators now feature new, thinner, compact designs. So Fridge found himself having to do a few ‘upgrades’ of his own in order to hold on to the name.
“It was a lot of hard work and dedication,” a slender smiling Fridge told Kitcharee on Thursday.
In 16 short months the former H2O Phlo vocalist has lost over 180 pounds. His latest weigh has him at a feathery 186 pounds. Fridge says his new found confidence and zeal for life is worth twice that weight in gold.
“The weight loss was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life because I’ve always been overweight.
“Taking care of yourself is so important. I was going downhill before I got serious about my health and life in general. My blood pressure was high, I had no energy, felt frustrated and had no self-confidence, but I turned it around and if I can do it anyone can do it,” he said with another wide smile.
Consistency and discipline
the only secret
So how exactly did he do it? Fridge says there were no shortcuts to his body transformation. A disciplined diet and consistent exercise regime are his only secrets. That and good old intermittent fasting.
“Diet and exercising every day is my new lifestyle. I started off doing aqua aerobics with Chetwayo’s Fitness Enterprise then I joined Central Athletic Club at C3 Centre in south, but the most and I can’t stress it more, the most important aspect of my weight loss was changing my diet.
“One of the main things I did was give up all processed food including flour and sugar. I totally gave that up. Now I only drink water and coconut water. And I only eat meat, veggies, provisions, eggs, peas and stuff like that. I also do intermittent fasting where I only eat two meals a day and work out six days a week,” he revealed.
Fridge said the right support systems also go a long way in staying on the path of healthy living.
“I had the right inspiration and support from a very special woman Nicole Lalsingh, who encouraged me and supported me during the weight loss journey,” he said with a wink.
Lots of new music
So I know what you’re thinking, what does this new Fridge sound like? Does he still have that soulful “big boy” sound?
The proof is in his new Christmas releases. Fridge hasn’t missed a beat. His collaboration with rapper Tim Starr (Wade Christian) on the soulful pop single “Christmas in the Air” is already on the nation’s airwaves. And he has released two new soca parang offerings including the likable “We Go Parang” on Mark Abouhammad’s Fiesta Riddim and “Christmas Time Again on Master Mike’s Joyful Riddim.
“I have done three songs for the Christmas season and I also got a couple of groovy soca releases coming up for Carnival 2020. I’ve also been invited to do some cruise ship and hotel work abroad so things are looking really good,” he said.
As for his immediate future the new model Fridge is already back in the studio stocking up on new material.
“I’m just focused right now on rebranding myself, writing new songs and working on more new music for 2020 and beyond with my producers Mark Abouhammad and Richard ‘Charsu’ Ahong. There is so much to look forward to,” he concluded with another one of those wide smiles.
