Beach-goers enjoy the sun and sand at the popular Maracas Beach. And while most people adhere to the Covid-19 coronavirus health protocols, a few were spotted without masks on the beach.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley announced that beaches were reopened on October 24.

The prime minister, however, asked that citizens refrain from flocking to the popular beaches along the north coast.

Rivers and ponds remain closed.

Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh has also asked that people going to the beaches wear face masks, face shields or coverings in public places, including beaches.

Police have already issued 40 public health penalty notices at beaches across three divisions for breaching Covid-19 regulations.

Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith visited Maracas Beach last week and stated that he was pleased with what he saw. Griffith stated that 99 per cent of the people there were wearing face masks.
