A MAN was shot and killed while having a bath at his Sesame Street, Arima, home on Sunday night.
Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief Secretary Farley Augustine says he intends to write a letter of complaint to the United Nations (UN) over Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley’s “wicked” act committed against Tobago.
He said the fight is not over and he will take Tobago’s case to the international community.
“Licks” are booked for the People’s National Movement (PNM) at the 2025 general election.
So said Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar at yesterday’s Parliament sitting, where she spoke on the motion to approve the draft Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) Order 2024, which was approved.
According to Persad-Bissessar, the fact the House is debating the EBC report “definitely signals that the election is at hand”.
Tobago’s move towards deeper and effective self-government has been blocked.
The Parliament yesterday considered two related Bills:
1. A Bill which repealed the THA Act and provided for a Tobago Island Government and Tobago Legislative which required a simple majority and was passed. The Tobago Island Bill provides for the increase in the share of the national budget earmarked for Tobago from 4.7% to “no less than” 6.8% as well as for the Tobago Secretary of Finance to become a Corporation Sole.
Barataria/San Juan MP Saddam Hosein was taken to task yesterday by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley for his “cavalier” approach in seeking to abort the Committee stage of the Tobago bills. As the Committee stage began in Parliament, Hosein said the Opposition had received an aide-memoire from the Office of Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief Secretary Farley Augustine which raised the issue of consultation and which posited that some clauses in the bill may violate the core principles of self-determination.
