During the period September 2015 and April 30, 2019, the Ministry of the Attorney General, “which represents three ministries put together”, spent $237,539,793.66 on legal fees, according to Attorney General Faris al-Rawi
He said this included $140 million in legal fees incurred by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
In response to a question in the Senate yesterday from Senator Saddam Hosein, Al-Rawi said there was a 45 per cent cut in expenditure at the Ministry of the Attorney General, when compared with the expenditure of his predecessor.
He said, on average, the Ministry of the Attorney General spent $44 million annually on legal fees, adding that the current ministry is an amalgam of three ministries: Legal Affairs, Justice and Attorney General. He said, in comparison, under the last administration, one ministry- the Ministry of the Attorney General - spent $106 million annually on legal fees.
