Police are searching for a baby taken from her mother in Chaguanas, central Trinidad this morning.

It is being reported that the Venezuelan mother handed the baby to a local woman who took the child to a nearby supermarket, then left with the baby in a waiting car.

It happened at around 7:30a.m.

The mother, Valentina Hernandez said the woman came to her apartment and after a friendly chat, offered to take nine-month-old baby Sofia Rivas to the supermarket which is on the compound of the apartment complex.

CCTV camera footage shows the woman walking through the aisles with the baby then leaving with the child in a silver coloured station wagon.
