THE Government has provided no good reason for its intended violation of parliamentary convention which would take place today when the presentation of the 2020 budget and the debate on the EBC (Elections and Boundaries Commission) Local Government Order take place.

And after proper research, including checks with the clerks of the Barbados and Guyana parliaments, the United National Congress (UNC) has sharpened its objection to Government’s decision. In a second letter to the House Speaker, Bridgid Annisette-George, UNC Chief Whip David Lee reiterated this matter of “significant concern”, noting that it was a “well-established and settled practice that routine business gives way to the Parliament’s consideration of the budget”.
