“CEPEP workers are the hardest-working people I know. I see them out very early from around 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. I don’t know about the backpay. We would have to discuss it at a later date.”
So said Local Government minister Kazim Hosein during a brief interview with the Express yesterday morning. During Monday’s budget presentation, Finance Minister Colm Imbert announced a 15 per cent wage increase for CEPEP and URP workers effective December 1, 2019. In a release yesterday, Hosein said the CEPEP increase will benefit about 9,000 people, including contractors, forepersons, operators and labourers, especially single mothers.
