AN elderly woman with pre-existing medical conditions is Trinidad and Tobago’s latest Covid-19 fatality, taking the number of deaths from the coronavirus to 56. In addition, 82 more people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases to 3,223.

There are currently 2,369 active cases of the virus. This is according to the Ministry of Health Covid-19 update yesterday.

A total of 48 people have died from Covid-19 since the second wave of the virus started on July 20.

Eight people succumbed to the virus during the first wave. Elderly people make up the majority of deaths.

According to the ministry’s morning update yesterday, 42 additional people tested positive for the virus, while 11 Covid-19 patients were discharged.

It noted that 2,061 positive patients are now at home being monitored by the respective County Medical Officer Health (CMOH) offices.

At Couva Hospital are 75 Covid-19 patients - four in the Intensive Care Unit and six in the High Dependency Unit.

At Caura Hospital, there are 22 Covid patients, while four are at Arima General Hospital. The ministry indicated that 126 positive patients are housed at step-down facilities. In its afternoon update, the ministry reported 40 additional cases of the virus but no deaths.

To date, 768 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospital.
