ON THE ATTACK: Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar responds to the 2020 budget at yesterday’s sitting of the Lower House in Parliament at the International Waterfront Centre,

Port of Spain.

OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) is attempting to deflect scrutiny of what she described yesterday as its failure to protect former Petrotrin workers.

Persad-Bissessar was responding to OWTU president general Ancel Roget which followed Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal’s raising questions during the budget debate Tuesday about the OWTU’s Patriotic Energy and Technologies Company acquiring the former Petrotrin refinery at Pointe-a-Pierre. Roget on Thursday called on Persad-Bissessar to state clearly what the UNC’s position with regard to the OWTU’s Patriotic company acquiring the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery assets within 48 hours.

The local government election is heating up as, come Sunday, both the People’s National Movement (PNM) and the United National Congress (UNC) will be launching their election campaigns and presenting their 139 candidates.
