POLICE detained one man outside the Government Campus Plaza Parkade in Port of Spain yesterday in connection with the detonation of an explosive device at the Parkade on Tuesday.

Police said the man was held with items which resembled parts of the devices found at the scene of the blast on the 12th level of the parking structure.

Officers said while they were on enquiries at the building, which comprises a multi-storey car park, offices and restaurants, they observed a man walking around the building and looking in at stores and shops there.

Police said they called him over and when they searched his bag, he had items that looked similar to parts of an explosive device which was set off at the Parkade around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

After the police, military and fire services arrived, hundreds of employees from both Government and private firms were told to evacuate their offices.

There were no injuries or damage to the building.

Police said the suspect was being questioned last night.
