THE BODY of a man with a chop wound to the head was spotted floating in waters off Point Lisas on Friday.

The nude body was seen around 1.40 p.m. by a crew member on a vessel near the Point Lisas harbour.

The Coast Guard was contacted and the body was recovered from the Gulf of Paria.

Police believed the man was murdered days ago and his body thrown into the sea. They described him of being of African descent and medium to heavy built. Due to the decomposition of the body, officers were unable to assess his age.

ASP Richard Smith and officers from the Couva and Chaguanas police station were at the scene. The Homicide Bureau of Investigations or the Chaguanas police station can be contacted as the public’s assistance is being sought to identify the man or for any information that would help in the investigation.
