This was how founder of Is There Not A Cause (ITNAC), Avonelle Hector-Joseph, yesterday described the budget proposal to establish centres for homeless women.

During his 2019-2020 budget presentation yesterday, Finance Minister Colm Imbert announced that children under three years old will attend day-care centres for free.

This applies to single parent female-headed households who meet the necessary criteria.

The Government also proposes to build more centres for homeless women. Imbert said the Government will partner with the HDC to provide these centres.


Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has revamped the United National Congress (UNC) team, letting go ten current MPs and replacing them with new faces to contest the August 10 general election.

This is essentially what outgoing D’Abadie/O’Meara MP Ancil Antoine was told by the People’s National Movement (PNM) leadership yesterday.

Antoine was summarily removed as the party’s candidate for the 2020 general election following his “insensitive and objectionable statements” at a campaign meeting on Saturday.

All police officers whose weapons were discharged during an incident that left three men dead in Morvant two Saturdays ago are to be placed on administrative duty.

The Express understands that this decision has been taken regarding “all” officers who would have fired their weapons during the encounter in which Morvant residents Noel Diamond, Israel Clinton and Joel Jacobs were killed.
