THE announcement by Police Commissioner Gary Griffith on July 23 that the Marine Branch of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is set to return is yet another of many attempts to resuscitate the unit.

At the time, Griffith was speaking at a sod-turning ceremony for the construction of a new Carenage Police Station. The announcement was met with approval from Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, who said the TTPS Marine Branch was removed sometime ago and “replaced with nothing”.
