Rodney Charles at the Standing Finance Committee, Parliament building yesterday.

Tabaquite MP Suruj Rambachan said yesterday he was very concerned about fraudsters coming into the country and operating and working illegally as spiritualists and “ripping people off”. Noting that there were such persons “all over the country”, Rambachan said they were sometimes being facilitated by local people.

“They are ripping people off and I am wondering what kind of process takes place at the Immigration when they come to the airport—that they are allowed in the country without proper examination of what they are about. “And further, are these people being picked up, given the fact that there are full-page advertisements on the newspapers as to what they are doing in the country, in my view, illegally?” he asked during the Standing Finance Committee’s examination of the 2020 budget in the House of Representatives yesterday.
