Venezuelan arrivals here are like Indians’ 174 years ago, Chaguanas businesspeople were told at the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CCIC) Indian Arrival Day dinner on Wednesday evening.

Indian Arrival Day was celebrated yesterday with a national holiday. Chairman of the evening, CCIC director and former president Richie Sookhai, told guests at the Passage to Asia restaurant, St Yves Street, Chaguanas: “They are seeking a better life, and while we can argue that certain measures and structures need to be put in place, let us not forget the main thing.

Jamaat-al-Muslimeen leader Imam Yasin Abu Bakr says the Jamaat is responsible for the decrease in gang warfare, especially in the Enterprise, Chaguanas area.

He said further that the People’s National Movement (PNM) cannot win the general election without the vote of the young Afro-Trinidadians and this was why his son Fuad Abu Bakr wanted to join the PNM fold to become a voice for the youth in the Parliament.

An appeal has been made to the Government to engage in diplomatic discussions so Trinidad and Tobago nationals stranded abroad can return home aboard planes being sent here to repatriate foreign nationals.
