President Paula-Mae Weekes has confirmed that it is the decree of the Office of the President (OTP) to not allow unmarried persons, such as diplomats and parliamentarians, to attend presidential events.

In a statement yesterday, the President said that while other practices may have obtained from time to time, the OTP adheres to this formal tradition. The Sunday Express had exclusively reported that if you’re not legally married to the man or woman you live with, you won’t be invited to bring along a guest to functions hosted by the Office of the President.
