Dr Brinsley Samaroo

Gave details: Dr Brinsley Samaroo

FORMER attorney general Anthony Smart has accused historian and former National Alliance Reconstruction (NAR) Member of Parliament Dr Brinsley Samaroo of having a “distorted” view of what really happened during the 1990 attempted coup.

He said Samaroo made some totally inaccurate statements when he said during a live television programme on Friday, the 28th anniversary of the attempted coup, that members of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) were involved in helping local authorities suppress the insurrection by the radical Islamist group, the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen, led by Yasin Abu Bakr.
