THE body of a woman was found floating in the Gulf of Paria near the Hyatt Regency hotel in Port of Spain yesterday.

Up to press time last night, officers said they were unable to identify the woman or determine how her body came to be in the water.

Police said, shortly after midday, they received information that the body was spotted. Members of the Coast Guard were also contacted. They later retrieved the body and had it removed to the Port of Spain General Hospital where it will be stored until it is identified.

Officers explained that until the body is identified, an autopsy cannot be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Detectives from the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are continuing enquiries.
