Joanna Hood

YET another woman has been murdered after she was shot dead at her Valencia home yesterday morning.

Investigators confirmed that the woman, 31-year-old Joanna Hood, was shot multiple times when two masked intruders entered her home at St Albans Road.

John Hood, 58, Joanna’s father told officers he was in the gallery of his home when he was approached by two masked men who announced a hold up. The men then walked passed him and entered the house. He then heard two loud explosions, he told police.

The men then ran out the house, fleeing into nearby bushes and disappeared.

John Hood found his daughter lying on the ground in the living room area with gunshot wounds to her upper back. Joanna Hood though unresponsive was taken by police to the Sangre Grande Hospital where she was pronounced dead

Her killing and that of Jerome Guiseppi, 29, who was stabbed to death in El Dorado on Saturday evening, have taken the country’s murder toll for the year so far to 83, compared to 80 for the corresponding period last year.

Stabbed in chest

Guiseppi, who lived in Caura, was stabbed during an argument with another man.

The incident took place shortly before 7 p.m. at a shop just a short distance from where he lived, and in full view of other members of the public.

After stabbing Guiseppi, the killer dropped the murder weapon and ran off, said police.

Investigators said Guiseppi was at the shop when he and the man, whom he knew, got into an altercation. As the argument escalated, the man pulled out the knife and stabbed Guiseppi to the chest before running off.

Some of those who witnessed the incident contacted police while others attended to the injured man in an attempt to keep him alive until officers and officials from the Emergency Health Services (EHS) arrived. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police said they recovered the murder weapon at the scene and an arrest was imminent as they had information regarding the identity of the killer.

Officers of the Region II Homicide Bureau of Investigations are continuing enquiries into the two latest killings.
