A man who allegedly abducted a woman off the Charlieville walkover on Thursday night was captured by area residents who beat him into submission and held him until police arrived.

The woman told police that at around 9p.m. she was crossing the walkover on the Uriah Butler highway, on her way home from work, when the man attacked.

She said she was taken to an abandoned house at John Peters Road.

Under the threat of death, was stripped of her clothing.

The woman fought and was able to flee, naked, screaming for help.

Residents confronted the man, who pulled a knife and a “gun” that they realised was an imitation weapon.

The man was held. He was being treated at hospital overnight.
