An Arima man was killed in a shoot-out with police on Thursday night.

Police said the officers were responding to reports that a group of men, armed with guns, was acting suspiciously at Brazil Village.

The officers confronted the men and were greeted with gunfire, police said.

The officers responded, hitting one of the men.

Three others escaped.

The incident occurred at around 9pm.

The victim was placed in a police vehicle and taken to the Arima District Health Facility, where he was pronounced dead.

He was later identified only as 'Son Son' of Malabar.
