Dr Kris Sookdeo

A doctor stabbed in the abdomen on Tuesday when he caught a criminal attempting to steal his employee’s purse at his Eastern Main Road, San Juan, clinic, has been treated, discharged and up to last night on the mend at his San Juan home.

The suspect is on the run.

Dr Kris Sookdeo had to be taken to the Mt Hope hospital.

Employees of other businesses nearby said that at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the suspect walked into the office opposite Speedway Auto Supplies.

He complained to the doctor about an illness and asked to be examined.

He was asked to take a seat in the waiting room.

One of Sookdeo’s three employees then observed the man picking up a purse which belonged to another worker.

The doctor confronted the man and told his employees to call the San Juan police.

The man then stabbed Sookdeo before trying to open the locked glass and metal door of the office.

The man broke the glass door and ran off.

The Express spoke with one of his employees yesterday.

The woman said: “He is doing okay. He is in some pain but doing good.”

“His colleagues have him on strict bed rest so he cannot do any interviews,” she said.
