The body which was found on Wednesday morning in a shallow river in Maraval has been identified as that of 37-year-old Alana Mason, of Diego Martin.

The woman was identified by a relative yesterday.

An autopsy is expected to be performed at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, to confirm the cause of death, as Mason’s body bore what appeared to be marks of violence to the face and right hand.

Last seen on Tuesday

A knife was also found near the body.

The Express was told ­Mason was last seen alive at 6 a.m. on Tuesday. The relative told ­police he last heard from her via WhatsApp around 5 p.m. that day.

She was expected to finish work two hours later.

However, when she failed to return home, or answer any phone calls, the police were notified.

Around 10.45 a.m. on Wednesday, police received a report that the body of a ­woman was found floating face-down in a river off La Finette Road, Paramin Village, Maraval.

Relatives declined to speak to the media yesterday when approached at the forensic centre.
