CRIMINALS with guns and cutlasses stole more than $200,000 in cash and jewelry from a Penal family during a home invasion early Monday.

The family of seven was forced out of their beds and held captive while the bandits pillaged the house.

Police said five armed men wearing masks and dressed in dark clothing cut through the metal bars of the burglar-proofing over a kitchen window and entered the house at Laltoo Trace around 3 a.m.

The bandits woke family members and bound their hands with tie-straps.

The criminals ransacked the house and forced the family to open two safes containing jewelry and cash. They escaped in a waiting vehicle.

The family members untied themselves and contacted the police hotline, and WPC Mohammed and others from the Penal CID, as well as PCs Sujeet Ramcharran and Bickaroo of the Emergency Response Unit, responded.

Police searched the area for the suspects but no arrests were made.

WPC Mohammed is investigating.
