Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is going to sue a UNC local government candidate for what Rowley describes as “utterly vile and derogatory statements” made by Devon Thomas, the candidate for Febeau/Bourg Mulatresse.

In a press release on Sunday, Rowley said he had taken note of the statements made by the candidate and “sanctioned on a national UNC platform [on Saturday]”.

It was the UNC's final Local Government rally at Centre Point Mall Car Park, Chaguanas, ahead of Monday's vote.

“These offensive statements are a continuation of the UNC’s campaign which specifically targeted the Honourable Prime Minister in the run up to the 2015 General Election.

There is absolutely no room in Trinidad and Tobago for statements which have sinister and divisive undertones and seek to describe the Prime Minister as having committed a heinous crime.

The Honourable Prime Minister has instructed his attorneys to sue Mr. Devon Thomas, the candidate for Febeau/Bourg Mulatresse as soon as the Local Government Elections have concluded" the press release stated.

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has urged all victims of domestic violence to call 999 for an immediate response as he took issue with the manner in which a victim was treated when she called 800-SAVE.
