Today’s Local Government Elections is a test piece for the upcoming general elections, says Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal.

The results, he said, would determine how much more needs to be done to secure victory at the general elections next year.

Moonilal was speaking to the media after voting at the Gulf View Community Centre, La Romaine.

He said, “The party had a hectic ground campaign, a strong local ground campaign. This is a test piece for the general elections. The results tonight will tell us where we are and where the PNM is and tell us what more we have to do and how much more we have to do in order to secure victory at the general elections next year.”

Moonilal said he too was concerned about the boundary changes leading up to the local government elections.

The district of La Romaine, he said, had become a marginal seat.

Moonilal said although the party had been working in the district, La Romaine was a “tough seat” and can result in a mixed slate in the UNC-run Penal/Debe Regional Corporation.
