Well into the 2019/2020 budget speech by Minister of Finance Colm Imbert I was wondering if this was really a budget speech or an on-the-platform campaign speech by a Member of Parliament seeking re-election. Why was there so much reference to the last government and the last government’s performance, four years down the road?

The authorities keep calling for national unity but seem to be practising differently. During the first hour of his presentation we were hearing “this PNM Government” rather than “this Government” or better yet “the present administration” and I don’t think that the use of such clichés such as “malfeasance, red herrings and bad-mouthing” were appropriate at all.
