Trinidad and Tobago winger Levi Garcia made his debut for his new Greek club, AEK Athens, coming off the bench during a 1-0 win over St Gallen in Switzerland yesterday to advance to the group stage of the 2020-2021 UEFA Europa League.

Four minutes after Garcia came on, Portuguese striker Nélson Oliveira scored the only goal in the 72nd minute. The match ended in animosity with the St Gallen coach approaching the referee angrily after the final whistle and being shown a yellow card, his team having been knocked out of the competition a minute earlier.

Having signed a five-year contract last week, Garcia, 22, came on as a 68th-minute substitute for Iranian Karim Ansarifard and made a few penetrating runs into the opponents’ half as AEK weathered home team pressure and operated mainly on the counter-attack in the second half of the match.
