Lendore Youths were hardly expected to make an impression when they came up against Innocent Fun in their opening fixture of the 2019 Lendore Village Football League on Friday. But the out-muscled youngsters, led by 16-year-old goalkeeper Jeremy Lett, won the hearts and applause of fans in a combative 2-2 draw against their bigger and more experienced opponents.

Innocent Fun piled on the pressure from the opening whistle at the Chrissie Terrace Recreation Ground in Enterprise. Mikaay Aberdeen had a firm shot on goal in the 12th minute but Lett was equal to the task, punching the ball away. Three minutes later, Ronald Whiskey shot over the crossbar after being given some space by the defence, and Lett was at his brilliant best in the 17th minute, quickly coming off his line to narrow the angle before using his legs to push an Akeel James effort behind for a corner.
