THE San Fernando Netball League (SFNL) paid tribute to both the past and the future when opening its 2019 season recently at the Southern Regional Complex, in Pleasantville.

The long-standing San Fernando league opened with a March Past of teams, which was won by Chaguanas United.

The league also observed the 40th anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago netballers finishing joint-winners, with Australia and New Zealand, at the 1979 Netball World Championships, which was staged at the (Mucurapo Multi-Purpose Facility) Jean Pierre Complex. The league also recognised this country’s national netball team which is set to participate in next month’s Netball World Cup. Actual league action begins in two weeks.

The Trinidad and Tobago field athlete landed the spear 72.94 metres for cellar position in the nine-man field. Following his first round effort, Walcott retired from the competition.

EVERSON LATCHMAN scored four straight goals as Trinidad and Tobago’s Under-17 boys water polo team rallied for a come-from-behind 14-13 victory over Peru, yesterday, for it opening victory of the UANA (Swimming Union of the Americas) Pan American Youth Water Polo Championships, taking place at the National Aquatic Centre, in Couva.

Trinidadian striker Marcus “Lobo” Joseph continued his scoring streak in India’s Durand Cup with another hat-trick as Gokulam Kerala FC defeated TRAU FC 4-1, in the final Group ‘D’ yesterday.
