TEAM TTO’s alpine skier Abigail Vieira placed 45th, while competing in 60th position from a field of 78 in the “first run” in the Women’s Giant Slalom yesterday, at the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games, at the Les Diablerets Alpine Centre in Switzerland.

However, in the second run, as conditions became tougher, with the athletes struggling to hold their line, Vieira was among the 21 failing to finish from the 58 skiers who had advanced after the first run earlier.

In the first run, Viera was just over ten seconds adrift of Finnish athlete Rosa Pohjolainen, who had the fastest time. However, the Finn had to settle for the silver as hometown favourite (Switzerland) Amelie Klopfenstein, who lay fifth after the first run, went on to cop gold. Meanwhile, Austria’s Amanda Salzgeber, who was sixth after the first run, improved to secure a podium finish, earning the bronze.

Vieira, TTO’s first-ever representative at a Winter YOG, has thus completed her Lausanne campaign following yesterday’s Giant Slalom.
